Yeah this is going to be the second and final part of Blog Tips from a Bitch because I am already bored, this is not my scene and I found RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3 on Youtube: I LIVE for Raja and Carmen Carrera.
So. Tips below. Read ’em. In the mean time I’ll be staring at men who are prettier in a dress than I am.
– It’s supposed to fun. Not a struggle. Find the topics you like, find the fellow bloggers you like, find the rhythm that works for you. That’s all you really need.
– Introduction (why?), middle (what), conclusion (wham!). BAM. A blog post that makes sense. If you have the spelling and grammer down the way I talked about in the first blog, congrats. You didn’t suck. If you have a killer final line in your conclusion, you have happy readers.
– Real-time is very important. I underestimated this for a very long time, because I didn’t really think it mattered when I wrote about something I was doing, but People want to know what you’re doing NOW. People like to be as close to YOUR experience as possible. It’s why Plogs, Vlogs and Diaries are so popular. People want to keep up with you. Worth keeping this in mind.
– Don’t take it personal, or (too) serious: It is the Internet. I love this place, but it has too many cats and too many weird things on it to ever take seriously. Laugh at it. If they hate your latest article, call you a cunt, if you lose a follower (my response), if someone doesn’t like you. You have a real life, with real people. Focus on that.
– However, feedback is feedback. It is worth thinking about, at all times.
I have learnt from the people who explained to me what type of grammar mistake I was making, I have been able to perfect blogs because people pointed out typos, and when someone told me I was trying too hard to be funny I took the time to reflect on that. I appreciate it when people try to educate me on things or share their ideas with me, and I do my best not to be defensive.
I don’t always agree, and I don’t always change.I am an adult with a good head on my shoulders and I will always do what I want, but I do listen to what you have to say.
(However, as soon as you’re rude you literally mean nothing to me and you go under the category ‘lol bye’.)
– The audience does not owe you anything. You are not owed fame, fortune and applause just because you put some stuff on the Internet, no matter how good. Hell, you’re not even owed courteous responses or friendly comments. The audience is what it is. No rights reserved.
– It is not classy to tweet about your hate, weird readers, unfollowers or haters. No matter how much it sucks.
I understand you want to blow off steam. Talk to your friends, your mom, or your cat. Putting that shit out in the open is tacky. Plus I believe the more attention you give to those incidents or those people, the worse it gets. For you mentally, and the more fun for others to chime in too.
Plus, what if that socially awkward reader was just trying to ask a question and you made fun of them on your Facebook page or Twitter account? Not cool.
– For fuck sake write some original content. Tags make want to shoot you in the MacBook, the 30th article about why spring/autumn/winter is awesome is not innovating or refreshing or anything of the sort. Always think of how much more you could do if you came up with something new.
Or don’t. Because the final tip from this bitch is: It’s your blog and you can do whatever you want.
