WHOOPS – Sorry! Had a major case of (Letting) Life Get In The Way last week. Which is ironic because usually the Internet gets in the way of life instead of the other way around. Especially in my case. Anyway, you can find my apology right here, and if you can take a joke: here.

Now let’s get on with it. I showed a picture on Instagram of this cute little box this weekend and some people still remembered: The Treasure Chest Exercise.

Last June I wrote down a few Universal wishlists and put them away in a box for six months. I called it the Treasure Chest Technique. What you do is you write down things you want to have in life, your closet, your line of work, your kitchen, your house, put it in the treasure chest and leave it alone for six months. The empathis is having fun figuring out the things you want and then completely letting it go. You don’t peek, you don’t spend time thinking about it: You just live and see what happens.

This weekend I opened the envelopes to see what I got and what I didn’t.Let’s review the results.

I wrote down 52 things and manifested 31. In some areas everything I wanted, save one or two, has come into my life, in other areas only a few items on the list came true. Geek that I am, I calculated the percentage: My success rate is 59%. To be honest I thought I would hit more around an 80% rate but I did a couple of things wrong that screwed up the lists I think. Oh well. As I assume Hugh Hefner might say, let’s see if I can get it up next time, sweethearts.

Let’s go into specifics.

Fashion & Beauty: By FAR, the most dissapointing. From my 18-itemed wishlist, I could only cross of 8. That’s not even half! I have the suspicion this is because even though Fashion&Beauty related things have value to me, this area is not my top priority nor my strong suit. I really only give it my attention when I’m in the mood for it and that’s only every once in a while.

The funny thing is that I set the strong intention that I wanted more warm winter clothes and realized that gloriously within a week: Bought one dress (1), received a late ASOS order (2), got to pick some warm cardigans from my aunt’s fabulous wardrobe (3, 4) and found two sweaters on sale at an outlet (5,6). Maybe it’s more sensitive to what you want Right Now, not so much the Long Term: I lose interest in it pretty quickly.

Fitness & Health: Yeah, lol, no. I reviewed it and this is pretty much a little list of (ridiculously unrealistic) goals that I abandoned completely. I think that when it comes to fitness goals, you really should review that stuff daily to keep your eyes on it, because otherwise you’re going to let it slide. I AM finally able to do triangle pose, a posture that had been kicking my ass for almost a year. But that’s a story for another time, another e-book.

Blog & Work: 10 out of 11, with some leniency on the numbers. I aimed for 500 bloglovin’ followers and 1000 on Twitter: I have around 700 on both accounts! I got my first advertorial, gave a workshop (with the second one coming up!), wrote another e-book and am in contact with some really cool people. All I need to do now is get self help publishers to send me their books for reviews but I’m thinking that if I get off my lazy ass and send an e-mail that’s pretty doable.

It’s been a good six months in this area, especially if you consider I’ve only had this blog since February. I think this area was most impressive because it has been the most important to me. I am devoted to it, even when I’m not consciously working on it or thinking about it: Writing and helping people are my deal and maybe that’s why this literally came easier.

Relationships: Five out of five, but I don’t know if that should count: I just wanted everything (relationship with Manfriend, Lin, old friends, meeting new people) to be the same or better and it is.

Material Possessions: This was the most interesting thing to me: I got really specific and wrote down 8 things I really wanted and manifested 5. Unfortunately no Louboutins, iMac or dehydrator just yet, but…

I got the white Matstone slow juicer a few months ago because my old one broke, but had completely forgotten that I wrote down that specific brand and color on that list; it was just a good deal I found on-line. Manfriend and I bought Rayban Wayfarer and Aviators in Venice , Manfriend got me a Nespresso machine as a gift two weeks ago and I also received the iPhone 4s in the mail for my new phoneplan. Thought all that was pretty neat.

In conclusion, it was really fun to open all the envelopes and see what came true and what didn’t. Some of the items I wrote down didn’t hold that much desire for me anymore, and some I still feel as passionate about as I did before. The relatively ‘low’ success rate threw me off a little, but I’m not complaining. Now I am thinking about what I am going to write on the next lists that I’m putting in a box on Christmas eve so I can open them in May and see what has happened. I’m hoping I’ll be hitting an 80% success rate by then!

I wonder about you guys, because I know some of you were planning on doing this too? Did you? And how were your results?

My part time job of teaching at university is one of the reasons I love getting up in the morning. Psychology, traching and motivated, intelligent people — for the most part, of course. I’m not one to complain, but a definite albeit surmountable downside is that a part time job doesn’t come with a full time job salary. A definite glitch in my Evil Master Plan, I know.

I can make due, but last month things were a little tighter. However, instead of panicking (again, for the most part) and selling a kidney, I took a different approach. I got the Universe involved, and started working at attracting abundance. Which is a fancy term for using the Law of Attraction to bring more money into your life.

It’s not hard or anything. One strategy I used is that I really relished in the moments that I felt most abundant. Being in my yoga studio or my superfood stocked kitchen, the moments I was drinking champagne or great wine with friends or when I was surrounded by the people and things I love. Looking at my stacks of books, my wardrobe, my house. The moments I feel rich in different ways than my bank account.

In my mind, I focused on feeling abundant and taken care, and thinking thoughts that go well with that. Good financial thoughts. Like “I attract money”, “Money find its way to me” and “My finances will grow”. Make no mistake: Still paid my bills, didn’t start buying expensive stuff to trick myself into thinking I’m rich (bad move). I just felt ‘rich’ and thought positive, financial-happy thoughts.

…That was all I did. I did nothing more and all I had to do next was say ‘yes’ to the opportunities that would present themselves to me. And what do you know, they actually did.

First, Manfred’s bro needed someone to fill in for him at his hotel job. All I had to do was say ‘yes’. I spent two weeks, checking in guests in the most beautiful hotel in Rotterdam. I helped out a loved one and got paid to boot. Awesome.

Second, for the first time in my Internet history I was approached by a decent media company. Not for gambling websites ads, not US take away services links, nothing in conflict with my website or my readers. Actual things I could work with. I’ve always had to say ‘no’ but this time, I finally could say ‘yes’. Milestone if there ever was one.

I also received an e-mail from my job. If I could please stand by to teach second-year students. Again. All I had to do was say ‘yes’.

Of course I am TOTALLY disappointed there was no big bag of money falling from the sky, because that would have been a kick ass story, but these things were awesome. I’m grateful for the little financial wiggle room they gave me, and I believe that my mindset helped.

One of the reasons I got more convinced of that as I was on a roll with the abundance mindset was the unexpected side effect: Project Penny picked right back up. I am finding coins again, everywhere. While I wasn’t even focusing on coins or trying to find them! They were just there. Everywhere! Where I park my bike, on the road, on random cafeteria tables. Even (the Universe has a sense of humor) in the almost exact same situation that turned me into a believer: A coin literally rolled right under my feet as I was in the subwaystation.

For me, this is a clear as day example that however subtle and however pronounced, our minds have an impact on our realities. Cool, no? And who knows where this could lead to. Worth finding out.

Sometimes all a girl needs is a cute notebook, am I right?

What you should know about me is that I get totally high on office supply. Few things make me happier than notebooks, post-it notes and markers. I should tell Manfred to bring home a bouquet of pens instead of flowers.

I am always writing things down, so I usually carry around 2-3 different notebooks: One big A4-format for guest articles, blogs and other writing, a smaller one for random stuff, short things and articles when I don’t want to whip out the big one and probably one I forgot about.

I used to be all about the Moleskines but ever since my first Paperblank, I am leaning towards Paperblank. I like the clean, simple look of the Moleskines, very Hemingway and old-school writer and what not. However, I find the Paperblank paper stronger, prettier and way more comfortable to write on. And let’s be serious, the covers are all to die for. (If you’re unfamiliar with the Paperblank notebooks, take a peek here at the array of Paperblanks and be amazed)

A few weeks ago I bought this Paperblank, with special purpose: For manifesting, gratitude, goals and happiness only.

See, I have been sort of slacking in the whole Manifesting, Positive Attitude Harvesting and Goal Setting Arena. Not that I don’t do it, but I have not been doing it as faithfully as I used to, and a lot less on paper. And I know that if you want to give something extra ‘oomph’ (whether it’s a goal, a dream, a Universal wish list or even a To-Do List), writing down is the way to go. So to give myself some incentive and give my manifesting & proactive positivity a little kick in the butt, I decided to make this a journal specifically for this use.

And there is something powerful and almost magical about filling a notebook with all that. It basically becomes a manifesto of the things you love and want, while at the same time being a powerful tool in actually strengthening or achieving that.

And so, I’ve been slowly and steadily filling up this cute booklet. I’ve put in Universal Wish Lists, made a few worksheets from Jessica Mullen’s website, written To Do Lists, goals I set for myself and very important, Gratitude Lists like the one below.

It’s not only fun and very relaxing to spend some time on this instead of hitting the refresh button on 9gag again, it’s also a great eye-opener and motivator. It’s hard to ignore what you really want to do or have when you’ve just written it down, you know?

I’m kinda wondering if I’ll notice any difference, any more ‘oomph’. But if not, at least I got to show off the cute notebook. Now I need to go see a Manfred about that pen-bouquet I was talking about earlier. Lates!

I talk an excellent game about manifesting the things you want. I can even drag up a substantial amount of evidence how the Law of Attraction has worked for me up until now in my life. But a good preacher shows how she practices too, non?

And excuse me, but I want to be an Epically Awesome Preacher. So how about I take you through how practice what I preach?

I love making lists and manifesting things. Why? Because I can. Because sometimes there is nothing good on TV. Because I figured that even if it doesn’t happen (right away), there’s no harm in it. And of course the most important reason of all: because it’s so incredibly fun! It’s such an enjoyable process!

The list below includes the things I want to manifest during the upcoming time. Although I’m not very good at the *poof!*-factor of the Law of Attraction (which means I’ll be definitely be experiencing some delays in some) we can check back here in June to see if I’ve been able to attract these things. So you can see if I come up with evidence or if I’ve been talking out of my ass this whole time. ;-)

Let’s make a list, shall we? Fun!

Money & Wealth: I want to attract money. I want to be a money magnet, attracting coins, bonuses and unexpected financial opportunities wherever I go.

Before I move on: I’m not focusing on the financial aspect because I’m poor. I make enough money and what’s more important I feel wealthy every day in most aspects of my life. I’m doing it because my earlier Project Penny is one of the best ways to show you how the Law of Attraction works. I have a jar ready for the coins, as we speak and I’m going to keep a log on the other extras.

Health & Fitness: I want to attract shitloads of exercise and healthy foods this month. Of course that means yoga and plenty of time to do that, but also time to juice, opportunities to exercise, prepare super healthy foods and maybe the possibility for a iHerb superfood order. Also, I’d very much to see my abdominal muscles make a comeback before summer, so thanks a bunch sweetpea Universe.

Love & Friendship: I want my life to overflow with love and affection, basically. I want to feel love around me constantly. I want me and my boyfriend to get even closer, talk to each other earnestly and share lots of happy moments. I want to feel connected to my best friend all the time. I want to take the time to catch up and spend quality time with my other friends.

Work & Writing: I want to work with enthusiasm and positive energy, be as productive and effective as I can. I want to attract inspiration and a pro-active attitude both in my job as behind my computer for writing. I want inspired action and an excellent performance review.

Beauty & Fashion: I want to feel comfortable and attractive in what I wear. I want to attract beautiful and luxurious things in terms of clothes&make-up. My outer appearance is a reflection of my inner being: I want to do that justice. I want to be surprised by cool and gorgeous items and maybe find a new perfect jeans and a high-quality white T-shirt.

Miscellaneous Specifics (because they’re easy to spot and to check off the list)

  • An interesting new person to be friends with.
  • Champagne!
  • Young Thai coconuts for smoothies and coconut water
  • A festival ticket
  • Poetry fridge magnet set (always wanted one!)
  • Raw honey (can’t find it anywhere!)
  • A plant for in the dining room.

I’m putting on my best attractive buzz as we speak: curious, excited and trusting. Let’s get to it.
